Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") describes prohibited uses of the SignalStack API, website, and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to comply with this policy. Violation of this policy may result in suspension or termination of your access to the Service.

1. Prohibited Uses

You may not use the Service for, or in connection with, any of the following:

1.1 Illegal Activities

Any activity that violates applicable laws, regulations, or governmental orders, including but not limited to:

  • Fraud, financial crime, money laundering, or terrorist financing.
  • Human trafficking, child exploitation, or any activity involving harm to minors.
  • Distribution of illegal drugs, weapons, or controlled substances.
  • Violation of export control laws, sanctions programs, or trade embargoes.

1.2 Misuse of Verification Results

Using verification results from the Service in a manner that is deceptive, misleading, or harmful:

  • Presenting verification results as definitive guarantees of truth, accuracy, or authenticity.
  • Using verification scores or evidence chains to make automated decisions without appropriate human oversight where such decisions could cause significant harm.
  • Misrepresenting the capabilities, accuracy, or coverage of the Service to end users.
  • Using verification results for identity theft, impersonation, or unauthorized surveillance.

1.3 Abuse of the Service

  • Exceeding documented rate limits or attempting to circumvent rate limiting mechanisms.
  • Reverse engineering, decompiling, disassembling, or extracting the source code of the Service.
  • Interfering with or disrupting the integrity or performance of the Service, including denial-of-service attacks.
  • Probing, scanning, or testing the vulnerability of the Service without prior written authorization from SignalStack's security team.
  • Using automated methods to scrape, index, or extract data from the Service beyond normal API usage.
  • Creating multiple accounts to circumvent plan limitations or trial restrictions.

1.4 Prohibited Content

Submitting, processing, or transmitting through the Service:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any content involving the exploitation of minors.
  • Extremist, terrorist, or hateful content targeting protected groups.
  • Malware, viruses, or other malicious code.
  • Content that violates the intellectual property rights of others.
  • Personal data of individuals without a lawful basis for processing.
  • Government-issued identification documents without proper authorization.

1.5 Unauthorized Data Collection

  • Using the Service to collect personal data of individuals without their knowledge or consent where required by law.
  • Using the Service to build competing verification products or services.
  • Using the Service to train AI models or machine learning systems without our express written permission.

2. Rate Limits and Fair Use

Each plan has defined rate limits intended to ensure fair access for all users:

We reserve the right to temporarily throttle or suspend access if usage materially exceeds plan limits or threatens the stability of the platform. We will provide notice when reasonably possible.

3. Abuse Reporting

If you believe someone is violating this AUP or using the Service inappropriately, please report it to us immediately:

Please include as much detail as possible, including the nature of the violation, the account or API key involved, timestamps, and any evidence (log excerpts, screenshots, etc.). We will investigate all reports and take appropriate action, which may include suspending or terminating accounts.

4. Enforcement

Violation of this AUP may result in:

  • A warning requiring immediate corrective action.
  • Temporary or permanent suspension of your API access.
  • Termination of your account without refund.
  • Referral to law enforcement authorities for illegal activities.

We reserve the right to determine, in our sole discretion, whether conduct violates this AUP. We may take enforcement action without prior notice when we believe there is an immediate risk of harm to the Service, our users, or third parties.

5. Reporting Obligations

You agree to notify us promptly if you become aware of any violation of this AUP by your users or anyone accessing the Service through your account. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the Service and your end users' use of the Service comply with this policy.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this AUP from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or through the Service at least 30 days in advance. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
